David de Gea is in England undergoing a medical before he can complete his long, drawn-out move to Manchester United.
The goalkeeper had said he would leave it until after the European U21 Championships before deciding his future. After having won the tournament with Spain on Saturday, it seems the 20-year-old has wasted no time in jetting to Manchester to apply the finishing touches to his deal.
The Daily Mail, a British newspaper, published photos of De Gea at Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester on Monday. United officials had tried to keep the medical under wraps using a giant white sheet, however they just ended up looking stupid as the Mail was able to take these snaps anyway.
The €20 million move to United could be completed and announced within the next 48 hours.
United see De Gea as the long-term replacement to Edwin van der Sar, who retired at the end of last season. The move takes the Manchester club’s summer spending past €55m, whereas Atlético are yet to spend a cent improving the first team.
There’s no denying it now, De Gea is off to England. So who do we put our faith in? Joel? Asenjo? Or do we look for a replacement elsewhere?
