Former Atlético player Juan Escudero passed away on Tuesday at the age of 91, MARCA reports.
Escudero, who was the last living member of Atlético Aviación de Madrid – as Atleti was temporarily known as from 1939 through 1947 – won back-to-back La Liga titles with los Rojiblancos during the 1939/40 and 1940/41 seasons, the first two times the club had finished at the very top of the league standings.
The footballer, who was born on 25 September 1920 in Salamanca, left the club during the 1943/44 season.
Atlético released the following official statement regarding Escudero’s passing on its website:
“We at Atlético Madrid also feel the pain of [Escudero’s] family, to whom we express our most heartfelt condolences. Rest in peace.”
