While some Atlético Madrid fans have lamented the club’s inability to sign a centre and offensive midfielder, it was made clear from the start of the transfer window that the goal was to retain most of the 2012-13 Copa del Rey winning team.
Other than Radamel Falcao’s inevitable departure, Atlético has been able to do just that, even if reports coming out today suggest another big name is close to leaving.
Spanish sports papers today report that five serious offers were made for Arda Turan. Among the clubs interested in the Turk are said to be Monaco, who offered a big contract to our no. 10, and his former club Galatasaray. According to El Mundo Deportivo, Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool also had offers in for the fan-favourite.
At least one offer was said to have matched Arda’s buyout clause of €24m.
The article says that Atleti directors met with Arda and his agent over the Christmas period to discuss some stories that surfaced claiming the Turk was actively looking to leave this summer.
However, it appears as if Arda has no intention of leaving Atlético Madrid, where he feels greatly appreciated by his coach, team-mates, and fans, and where he has won three titles since arriving in the summer of 2011.
