Léo Baptistão headlines busy rumour day for Atlético

The rumour mill hits overdrive as the January transfer window opens

Will Léo join the ranks of Atleti this summer?

20-year-old Rayo Vallecano striker Léo Baptistão will reportedly join Atlético at the end of the current season, COPE reports.

The Spanish radio station claims the gifted young attacker, who will cost Atleti €6 million, will sign a four-year deal with los Colchoneros.

As we reported in early December, Rayo conditioned the agreement on allowing Léo to finish the present campaign at Vallecas in order to help our neighbours stave off relegation.

COPE also reports los Rojiblancos are very close to striking a deal with Granada for left-back Guilherme Siqueira, who holds both Brazilian and Italian citizenship.

This news comes on a very busy day of transfer activity across Europe upon the opening of the winter transfer window.

Atleti coach Diego Simeone confirmed in a press conference Tuesday morning that goalkeeper Joel and fullback Sílvio had permission from the club to negotiate with other teams, thus explaining their absence from training.

According to reports in the Spanish media, Joel is presently in Wigan fleshing out the final details of a loan deal with the Premier League outfit, while Sílvio is said to be very close to agreeing to a move to Deportivo.

‘El Cholo’ also assured that, despite all the recent chatter regarding the possibility of Arda making an exit, the midfielder isn’t going anywhere. Chelsea purportedly submitted a €24 million bid for the Turkey international, the amount of his release clause.

“Arda isn’t leaving, that’s for sure,” Simeone said.

“What’s important is what the player shows on the field. There’s not a single Atlético Madrid fan that doesn’t consider Arda as one of the best players we have and that he puts his heart into every single match.

“He has a contract with the club and he is an extremely important player and shows it where he needs to.”

Another rumour involves a supposed €12.3 million offer made by Arsenal for Adrián, roughly €6 million shy of the Asturian forward’s release clause.

Love it, Hate it. The storm is here!

would be great news, but COPE is not the most reliable source

  • starvs

    Sounds great.

Anyone have anything to say about Guilherme Siqueira? Looks like he scored 6 goals in 35 matches this and season, certainly respectable for any defender.

  • Shlomgar

Siqueira is awesome. If we get him we would have the two best Brazilian LB in the world. He is a replica of Filipe and does defense and attack at a similar rate and style.

  • Epoy

If we are getting Siqueira then Filipe must be leaving!!!
Can we afford to have both?

  • Arjit

No need to have both, Felipe is awesome! We need someone decent for backup, not someone amazing

  • Shlomgar

I think they both can get other options on the field where Filipe can get forward to LM and Siqueira to RB. No problem here.

I like Leo, could be a great signing. Dont believe the siquera one as he will cost too much for a back up LB, surely we will be looking for a young player there?? Rumours today are saying that we could sign Verdu on a free transfer for the summer

  • Yon

Siquera LB and Filipe on the left flank, if Arda does go!
