Atlético flew to Portugal Wednesday ahead of their Europa League play-off round second leg clash against Vitória de Guimarães. Los Rojiblancos take a comfortable 2-0 lead, secured in last week’s clash at the Vicente Calderón, into Guimarães’ D. Afonso Henriques Stadium.
A brace by substitute Elias helped Atlético to a 2-0 advantage over Vitória de Guimarães in the first round of the Europa League. The Brazilian was brought on in the second half and broke the deadlock against the Portuguese, who at that point were a man down after João Paulo’s dismissal in the 65th minute.
Atletico host Vitória de Guimarães at the Vicente Calderón Thursday evening in the first leg of their Europa League play-off round fixture. Los Rojiblancos got past Norwegian side Stromsgodset in the third qualifying round, while Vitória sent Danish outfit FC Midtjylland packing in the previous stage of the competition.
After besting Norwegian side Stromsgodset 4-1 overall in the third qualifying round, Atlético will now face Vitória de Guimarães in the Europa League play-off phase, with the first leg to be played at the Vicente Calderón on the 18th of August. If Atleti advance we will enter the group stages of the tournament we won back in May 2010.
