Atlético Madrid are back on top of Group I of the Europa League after a convincing 4-0 victory over Udinese. The Italians rested several first team players and we’re unable to stop Adrián, who scored his second brace in five days. Diego and Falcao each added their names to the scoresheet with a goal apiece.
After a much needed three points against Zaragoza at the weekend, Atlético now turn their attentions back to the Europa League for another highly important clash with group leaders Udinese. Los Colchoneros can go top of the group with a win, and will be seeking revenge for their 2-0 defeat in Udine a fortnight ago. The game is scheduled Thursday at 21:05 CET in the Vicente Calderón.
Only 10,026 spectators were present in an empty Stadio Friuli to witness Udinese’s victory over Atlético in the Europa League. The Zebrette left it late, in a match which again saw Atleti unable to score in an away game.
Atlético return to Europa League action tomorrow evening, and will look to put their La Liga woes behind them by getting a crucial three points away to Italian high-flyers Udinese. While we wait for UEFA’s decision on whether to let FC Sion back into the competition, both teams should be going all out for the win in the Stadio Friuli on Thursday, where kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 CET.
