Quique: “We’ve gone from heaven to hell in a week”

Following Atlético’s disastrous loss to Levante, the club’s third consecutive defeat in just seven days, manager Quique Sánchez Flores sounded the all-too-familiar alarm bells. “We’re experiencing a difficult moment of crisis, and now all we can do is manage it,” he said. “We have to gather ourselves. We already went through tough times last year, and we were able to reverse the situation.”

La Liga: Atlético 2 – 0 Getafe

Atlético put another three points on the board today after a convincing 2-0 win over local rivals Getafe. A goal in each half was enough to secure the victory and return to winning ways after a disappointing start to October. After the Sevilla game Quique Sánchez Flores admitted he made a tactical error by playing a 4-2-3-1 formation. Today the Atlético coach decided to use Reyes as the second forward.

La Liga: Valencia 1 – 1 Atlético

A Simão goal in the 19th minute seemed enough for Atleti to leave Valencia with three points, but a late equaliser by Aduriz ruined Quique’s return to the Mestalla. The coach will have been happy with his team’s performance in the first half and the solid defending for most of the game, but will be worried about the lack of creativity going forward.
