Atlético resorted to their old ways yet again by turning in back-to-back stinkers in just a span of four days, with losses to Málaga and Racing Santander. Though los Rojiblancos still have a solid chance of securing a Europa League berth for next season, they felt it necessary to put their fans through the torture chamber one last time for the final stage of the current campaign.
For a brief spell Atlético looked like a decent team tonight, but during the other 70 minutes they were lacklustre and without the fight expected of them for qualification into the Europa League next season. Racing deservedly kept the three points at El Sardinero with their 2-1 triumph. Mario put us in front early with a wonderful blast, but Racing rallied back with goals from Kennedy and Rosenberg.
On Tuesday Atlético travel to Cantabria for a midweek round of la Liga action. We kick off at 9PM local time at El Sardinero against Racing de Santander, currently 12th in the league table. While Atleti will want to take all three points back to Madrid in their Europa League chase, the home side are in need of a victory as well considering they currently sit only four points above the drop zone.
A dull match at the Vicente Calderon against Racing Santander ended in a goalless draw; one that could very well have cost Atlético two very important points in their fight for a Champions League spot. With Kun Agüero our new captain we failed to create any chances against a tough Racing side. There’s more bad news too, as Tiago suffered a hamstring injury.
