There was only ever one real contender for the January Player of the Month award. After ending December in rampant style with a second half hat-trick away at Athletic Bilbao, winger Antoine Griezmann has continued in the same vein of form since the turn of the year with a string of impressive showings.
For the high standards set by Diego Simeone so far at Atlético, December was a fairly up and down month. Most of the news was dominated by the fallout from violence after the Deportivo game at the end of the previous month and Frente Atlético’s ban.
On the pitch however, we saw the birth of a new star – a 19 year-old from Uruguay by the name of José Maria Giménez, who scoops our award for best player over the last calendar month.
With five wins from six matches, there was no shortage of candidates for the AtléticoFans Player of the Month award for November. Diego Godín, Koke and Arda Turan have already taken home the prize this season, but this time round we felt the need to commend one of the more unsung heroes of the team.
The aforementioned trio were all had a good month, but for us, it’s right-back Juanfran who was November’s top man.
Despite a disappointing defeat at Valencia in the first league match of the month, Atleti enjoyed a successful October with 4 wins from 5, and made good progress in our Champions League group which we now sit top of. There were a few strong contenders for the best player award, including top scorer Mario Mandžukić
September was an up and down month for Atlético given the high standard we have been accustomed to under Diego Simeone, but there were still plenty of moments to savour for the Rojiblanco faithful. Arda Turan’s wonderful winner in the Bernabéu was no doubt the highlight, although it didn’t prove enough for him to take
