Atlético neglect option to purchase Pizzi

As it stands, Luis Miguel Afonso Fernandes, better known as “Pizzi“, won’t be staying at Atlético after the current campaign. Atlético beat Fuenlabrada 3-0 in friendly

Atlético Madrid were invited by Fuenlabrada for the inaugural match of their Fernando Torres Stadium, named after the Premier League superstar who grew up in the Madrid suburb. On Wednesday afternoon, Pizzi was officially presented as an Atlético Madrid player. The 21-year old, signed on Monday, was introduced by Caminero and Manolo Sánchez Delgado. The two former players handed him his new kit with the number 15.

Pizzi on board, Diego set to follow?

Luis Miguel Afonso Fernandes, better known as Pizzi, succesfully passed his medical on Monday morning. The versatile forward will join Atlético on a one-year loan, but we will hold the option to sign the youngster from Braga for €15 million. Atleti are reportedly in talks with Wolfsburg officials regarding a possible Diego transfer.

SC Braga have confirmed on their official website that they have signed Atlético midfielder Fran Mérida on loan for one year. “Fran Mérida will play at SC Braga this season,” reads the Portuguese side’s announcement before boldly claiming Fran “is one of the most promising players in Spanish football.”

Pablo Forlán: “My son will not be staying at Atlético”

“It’s for sure that my son will not be staying at Atlético,” assured Pablo Forlán, father of striker Diego Forlán, to Uruguayan radio station 1410 AM Libre on Friday. “If Diego doesn’t go to Inter, he’ll go to another club,” he said. “I don’t know which one, but what’s for sure is that he will not be staying at Atlético.”
