Atlético have agreed to loan out midfielder Rubén Pérez to newly promoted Elche for next season. This will be the fourth consecutive year out on loan for the 24-year-old canterano. Rubén Pérez previously spent time at Deportivo, Getafe and Betis. He made his single first-team appearance for Atlético as a substitute against Getafe in 2010.
For some years Atlético has intended to bring up more canteranos to the first team and Jorge Pulido’s contract extension shows the philosophy at work. Like Borja and Koke, Pulido is part of the first team but is registered with Atlético B, allowing him to play games with our reserves. With the inclusion of the trio, Atleti’s first team now consists of seven players from our youth system with several more out on loan.
Despite the ever-growing list of names being linked with Atlético in the winter transfer window, Rojiblanco club officials assured MARCA that the team “doesn’t need anyone else,” and that no signings will be made in the upcoming winter transfer market. Quique looks likely to have to rely on our canteranos for the rest of the season.
In a press conference held after the match against Universidad Las Palmas, Atlético coach Quique Sánchez Flores deemed reports of a turbulent relationship between him and striker Diego Forlán “outrageous.” He assured reporters that his relationship with the attacker is “super normal.” Quique also praised the performances of several youngsters that were handed playing time against Universidad.
