On Saturday Atlético presented the 2012/2013 team to their home crowd at the Vicente Calderón. In the first friendly at home the Colchoneros beat Peruvian side Allianza de Lima 3-0 through goals by Arda, Borja and Pedro. While some players are still unavailable to Diego Simeone, this was the first chance for the Atleti faithful
On the last day of the transfer window, youngsters Borja González and Leandro Cabrera were loaned out to Real Murcia and Numancia, respectively. At Atlético, the chances of being handed playing time were slim for the duo, who will now likely see plenty of action in la Liga Adelante.
With confirmations that Turkish side Besiktas have submitted a firm offer to Atlético for Diego Forlán surfacing in the global press on Thursday, los Rojiblancos’ future offense is starting to come into focus. Borja, Salvio and Adrián will reportedly be competing for the opportunity to start alongside Kun next year, while Costa and Piatti could be in the mix as well.
This season the Cerro del Espino has been a fortress, and that showed no signs of changing when Atlético Madrid B hosted the second team from Celta de Vigo on Sunday. Earlier this season the Galicians beat us comfortably (3-1) but at home our boys are incredibly tough to beat. This was demonstrated with yesterday’s 5-1 win, which was even more impressive considering Atlético B played more than half an hour with ten men.
MARCA is reporting that Atlético will part ways with Portugese midfielder Tiago at the end of the season. On loan from Juventus since January 2010, the former Chelsea man has reportedly failed to impress and no effort will be made to retain him. According to other news sources, Raul Garcia and Antonio Lopez are set to follow Tiago out of the club.
Next week is the Derbi Madrileño between the first teams, but today the fans got a nice warm-up with two mini derbies between Madrid’s biggest clubs. In the morning the C-teams played to a goalless draw, and early in the afternoon Real Madrid Castilla hosted Atlético Madrid B in what turned out to be a seven-goal thriller.
Atlético Madrid B have yet to win a single away game this season, and the bad streak continued on Sunday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Badajoz. Borja Bastón had the chance to level the score late on but missed from the penalty spot.
Playing home or away is like night and day for Atlético Madrid B who lifted themselves out of the relegation zone by comfortably beating Montañeros 3-1 at the Cerro de Espino. The Rojiblancos started off the encounter nervously but settled into the match, with the goals coming from Borja, Sergio Marcos and Roberto Batres.
At some point after the triumph over Mallorca last Monday, Atlético fell into a coma. With our season placed on life support after getting the boot from the domestic cup on Thursday, the team continued to show no signs of life in Gijón en route to a 1-0 loss that left our immediate future looking bleak.
Striker Sergio Aguero suffered a grade I left hamstring injury in the Copa del Rey match against Real Madrid. The 22-year-old is expected to be out for the next two weeks as he recovers from the strain. He will miss important ties against Mallorca, Real Madrid and Sporting Gijón.
