Atlético celebrate against Valladolid (MARCA)

Real Valladolid turned out to be just what Atlético needed. After three consecutive losses, in which they didn’t score, the Rojiblancos returned to their winning ways with an easy victory over La Pucela.

The victory was sealed after just four minutes, when Raúl García and Diego Costa had already struck. Late in the second half Diego Godín added another goal to secure a 3-0 victory.

Just 150 seconds into the game the home side already got on the score sheet. Gabi cleverly passed a free kick sideways to Raúl García, who scored with a low drive from the edge of the box.

Just a few moments later Raúl García played a ball over the top to Diego Costa and the Brazilian could easily lob the ball over Mariño into an empty net as the Valladolid goalkeeper found himself way out of position.

The spectators at the Vicente Calderón had to wait until the start of the second half to see more chances, when Mariño did well to block Diego Godín’s header. At the other end Javi Guerra volleyed wide one of the visitors’ few opportunities.

In the 67th minute Mario Suárez headed against the crossbar as Atleti continued to threaten through set pieces taken by Koke, Gabi and substitute Diego.

A quarter-hour before the end Diego Godín put the cherry on top both for his team and for himself, as he scored in his 200th La Liga appearance. The centre back headed in a corner kick taken by Diego.

The Uruguayan defender nearly scored again some moments later, when he lead a quick Atleti counter attack, but unfortunately the shot with his left foot missed the target. In the dying seconds of the game former Manchester United striker Manucho had a big opportunity to pull one back for Valladolid, but his attempt went wide as the Atlético defence not only kept a clean sheet but also prevented their opponents from striking on target at all.

Nice win.. Milan at the San Siro are next. That is going to be a good game..

  • Jeronamo

Indeed it will be… I’m ready and waiting to see it

  • Urban

Toby is almost on par with Miranda and Godin. He is slightly worse in defence (I would argue it is because he does not have the confidence yet) and in air but he is better with the ball than both of them. Give him more chances and he will develop to their level.

And I really want to see more of Gimenez. This guy was a beast in Turkey!!! We just have such a great CBs, good job Caminero. We just need to keep them and let Toby and Gimenez grow.

  • Ahmad Hossainy

we should have scored more goals, but 3 are not bad

Godin is having his best season with Atleti, maybe his best season in his career
I wish he doesn’t get any injury, and I wish him and Uruguay a great world cup, and why not wining it ?!
Godin played his 200 game at La Liga today, and his 28th birthday is tomorrow
I hope he ends his great week with a clean sheets and a goal at San Siro

and by the way, today’s win was our 800 in La Liga at home

Urban, a player who plays regularly for a great national team like Belgium must be a very good one,
and no doubt that Toby is
he did not play many games because he didn’t have a preseason with us,
but yet, he played 14 games, in 12 of them he played the whole 90 minutes, and with Simeone’s lack of using of the subs, these are a lot of games
in fact, he comes first in the number of minutes behind the 14 regulars (11 starters +3 subs)
and he is not so far behind Mario and Adrian,
he played 1089 minutes, just 81 minute less than Adrian (1170)
and 47 minutes less than Mario (1136), (although Mario was out for 3 months for injury)

for sure he will get more minutes in the rest of the season, especially if we passed Milan and stayed in the CL
and he will get more and more next season
we must thank Demichelis for paying 5 million of the 7 we bought Toby with 🙂

Saul just signed a new contract until 2018, with a buy-out clause of 24 millions
I repeat what I said before, we should get him back next season and get rid of Guilavogui
since Josuha is a Doyen Group’s property, there are two possibilities :
if he turned to be a bad player, we will sell
and if he turned to be good, we can’t keep him too long, and when we sell him, we will have only a small cut of his price
so, lets get rid of him already and give our boy a chance

  • Valinia

@ahmad i dun think we should guilavogui.. tiago is turning 33 this year while gabis turning 31, we should think in a long term perspective. guilavogui might b weak with the ball but defensively hes good

  • Valinia

    *we should sell guilavogui
