Atlético Madrid B were off to a terrible start against local rivals RSD Alcalá, but a goal from midfielder Vicente tied the score at the Cerro del Espino.
Visitors Alcalá, who fired coach Paco Flores last week, took the lead after just five minutes when Plata headed home.
César Ortiz almost immediately struck back, but goalkeeper Juancho saved the header from Cidoncha’s corner kick.
The game developed into a typical derby, with a lot of fouls, hard work and few opportunities.
After César had missed another opportunity, Vicente scored a fantastic equalizer. The visitors failed to clear the ball and Atleti’s midfielder smashed it home from over 30 yards out.
Atlético tried to take the lead, but Iván and Kader were shut out. After the break there were few chances for either side, although Alcalá looked threatening from set pieces.
The teams didn’t score any more goals and the match finished 1-1, a result well deserved. But according to Milinko Pantic the B-team deserved more.
“We said before the match that it was key to score a goal before Alcalá did, but we failed to do so”, the coach said.
“It was a typical derby between Madrilenian teams”, he added. “My team deserved more, but it was difficult to break open the Alcalá defence.”
Our reserves have picked up 8 points from the first seven league matches. Next week the team travels to Gran Canaria for the match against UD Vecindario.
