Luis Miguel Afonso Fernandes, better known as Pizzi, succesfully passed his medical on Monday morning.

The versatile forward will join Atlético on a one-year loan, but we will hold the option to sign the youngster from Braga for €15 million.

Pizzi, 21 years old, signed for Braga in 2008, but was loaned out to Ribeirão, Covilhã and Pacos de Ferreira.

Braga fans have seen little of their potential gold mine, because after playing his first two games for the club this month, the winger has now moved on to Madrid.

According to doctor José María Villalon, the player is “in perfect condition. He’s at the coach’ disposition and is available immediately.”

The doc might soon be welcoming another player to the FREMAP clinic in Majadahonda, because reports in the Spanish media claim the club are holding new talks with Diego Ribas, his father and Wolfsburg officials on Monday.

Atleti and Diego had reportedly already agreed to personal terms, but now a deal must be struck with the German club.

Meanwhile, it seems Elias is next in line to leave Atlético, after Diego Forlán’s departure earlier and Fran Mérida’s exit last week.

Elias could follow Fran to Portugal, as Portuguese paper A Bola reports the midfielder is close to a move to Sporting Portugal.

Sporting will reportedly pay half of what Atleti paid to Corinthians only eight months ago.

Gregorio Manzano confirmed last week that Elias was the victim of Atleti’s poor squad planning, as he’s the fourth extracomunitario and only three are allowed in la Liga.

If the 26-year old joins Sporting, he would be the 16th summer signing of the ambitious Os Leões.

Heard great things about Pizzi and seen him bang some fantastic goals in last year! His hat trick against Porto was sensational, just hope he can reproduce that form for Atleti. As for Diego! Magician! Hope he comes!!!!!

Hopefully he is good, 15m seems little on the high side for the option, but it’s just that, an option, so no harm I suppose…

Saw that video of him scoring a hat trick against Porto, had some quality goals there, that third goal was a pretty ridiculously long range strike, always like to see that…

  • palc

So. Is he a striker or a winger?

  • starvs

I’m not sure he even knows himself palc..

  • antoine

    who is this?????

  • John greece

Does Courtois have a buy option on his loan deal?????

Well, hopefully Pizzi can add something special, if he does well, who would this (probably) mean the end of? Salvio, Reyes or Juanfran (I guess Arda will stay a little longer for sure)? I don’t see Juanfran topping the others, at the moment, but 4 wingers are enough, hopefully number 5 will mean luxury instead of overload… Luckily he seems to be versatile, so he can also act as third or even second striker.

And John greece, I don’t think he has, doesn’t look like a Chelsea-move to give that opportunity in a case like this.
Hopefully it’s still a possibility… Momentarily he seems better than both Joel and Asenjo, but I think we can see more of him against Valencia, with more offensive prowess.

el coppa del rey will be a good test for him(pizzi)
now hope diego will sign to our next match against valencia with the new dream team!!!(arda-reyes-falcao-diego)

I really like this loan with option to buy thing. it’s pretty smart. It gives the player a chance to play for a contract intead of them being secure straight away with a normal contract. He knows he needs to step up, or back to Braga you go, no more La Liga for you. I like it.

I too like it Davide loans with a buyout option is about the smartest move you can make, low risk player evaluation method. Only thing I don’t like so much is the loan is only til Dec 31, wish it was for the whole season; not sure that will be enough time for him to prove himself worth 15m.

Davide- Has any other team exercised this loan with option to buy as much as Atleti has this year? I think it’s brilliant and wonder if it’s Caminero who is behind this. Elias for 8.8 million Euros was a fantastic sale!

I am a believer in Caminero!
