Atlético Madrid B have started the new season in Group I of the Segunda División with a draw.

We failed to impress against newly promoted Toledo in a match which ended as it began: 0-0.

New B-team coach Milinko Pantic chose to play a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield and left out one of last season’s most consistent performers, Sergio Marcos.

The former first team playmaker-turned manager also picked promoted canterano Pedro over last year’s topscorer Collado, who came on in the second half. New signing Fran, who joined from Alcalá, started at right back.

The first opportunity of the match was for set piece specialist Fer, but his freekick went wide of the post.

Atleti far from impressed and the home side dominated possession, although there were chances for Fer and Cidoncha to give our reserves the lead. The latter is a former-Atlético C player who seems a personal favorite of Pantic, who’ll surely have an eye for talented playmakers.

Fortunately for Atleti, Toledo striker Javi Fernández failed to beat goalkeeper Iago Herrerín on two occasions. In the second half there were chances for both sides, but Collado and Saúl missed for the young Rojiblancos.

We finished the match with 10 players after César Ortiz received his second booking of the night in the 84th minute.

Next week Atlético host Celta B, where hopefully the youngsters can improve their performance to make sure the three points remain in Madrid.

Line-up: Iago; Fran, Regalón, César Ortiz, Javi Cantero; Fer, Cidoncha (“73 Sergio Marcos); Roberto (“63 Ndoye), Noguera; Saúl and Pedro (“68 Collado).

Well, it’s the first game, so no major judgements yet. Still, a win would have been nice.
Not as many changes as last year, but still a few and there’s another coach with a new system.

When it’s clear what formation Manzano’ll use, I hope Pantic will use the same, so the eventual promoted players won’t have to adapt too much.

So far Manzano seems to stick to the 4-3-3, so I’m not too happy with Pantic starting with a 4-1-2-1-2 formation (you said diamond midfield)… Still, there’s enough time now, just hope they will perform better than last year.

Yeah I agree with you, Barca’s teams all use the same formatio so they dont have to adapt when they progress, we should do the same and then maybe more of our youngsters could become successful

Sergio Cidoncha is really good. He has scored 16 goals in 58 performances for C-team, being the best player and the captain. Besides, Sergio Marcos could not be ready to play all the match…
