The fixtures for the upcoming season have been announced, and Atlético will open the campaign at the Vicente Calderón against Sporting Gijón on 30th August. The game has been pushed back to Monday to give us time to recover from our UEFA Super Cup tie with Inter.

In September we then face Athletic Bilbao away, before welcoming Barcelona to the Calderón for what will be a huge match. We round off the month with games against Valencia (at the Mestalla) and then Zaragoza in Madrid.

The return match against Barcelona at the Camp Nou takes place on the weekend of the 2nd February 2011.

El Derbi Madrileño takes place first at the Bernabeu on the weekend of the 7th November, and then at the Calderón on the 20th March 2011.

With the schedule announced, it’s not too long before the season kicks off! I’m excited, you’re excited and you can bet everyone here at AtléticoFans is excited too! Roll on the new season!

You can find a full list of the fixtures over on our Fixtures & Results page.

Tough start of the season, I’d say.

I read the club was a little disappointed with the final schedule, because we requested to start away from home, because the new pitch at the Vicente Calderón might not be ready yet. Well, at least we get to play one day later than the rest

The new grass has nothing to do with the club wanting the first game away. In august madrid is a ghost town as most people go to the beach. With that in mind any games played in August have a low attendance. The club want a full house should they win the Supercopa and should they win they would want to sell tickets to get revenue. The grass they are using as an exuse but after travelling to monaco it would be better to play the first game at home on the monday rather than going up north.

Ah, thanks for the clarification Gary. The match being played on Monday surely won’t help either.
Speaking of, do you know if there will be a game on every Monday, like in the second half of last season?

From what I have heard there will be games again on Monday. It could be bad news for Atleti because we might have games on Monday because of the Europa League.
