According to several sources in the Spanish media, Atlético midfielder Raúl García is set to join Osasuna on loan after signing a three-year contract extension with Atleti.

The Pamplona-based side wanted to bring back their youth system product to his hometown permanently, for free, in much the same way Tiago arrived to us this summer after being released by Juventus.

Los Rojiblancos however, weren’t willing to part ways with the 25-year-old, who they had splashed €13 million on in the summer of 2007.

According to AS, Osasuna will reportedly only be responsible for paying a share of Raúl’s wages.

The former Spain youth international is expected to travel to Pamplona on Friday, where he will be formally presented by los Rojillos.

AS also claims that Atlético are still working to reduce the number of midfielders on the squad, with either Elias or Assuncao, or even both, rumoured to be on the way out soon.

“Atlético midfielder Raúl García is set to join Osasuna on loan after signing a three-year contract extension with Atleti.”

    What?? 3-year extension? Seriously?

Flo, I think because his contract his expiring at the end of this year they wan’t to recoup the (possibly overpriced…) ~14m they paid for him by selling him after the loan. Hopefully…

  • I’d love to see one thing though-Raúl Garciá getting a booking (as usual) BUT to at least destroy Messi, C.Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Busquets, Mascherano etc.

Wait, did I read that correctly “Atlético midfielder Raúl García is set to join Osasuna on loan after signing a three-year contract extension with Atleti.”

This waste of space & talent got an extra 3 years of labouring on the bench and making senseless passes to the opposition. No wonder our team is in shambles and as we all know it starts from the top!! Why send him on loan if you want to recoup what we paid for him? Find a buyer and take the loss because we’re obviously never getting €13 million what we paid for him.
