We told you earlier that Atlético was close to signing Filipe, and now it seems Deportivo left their full-back at home when they flew to Switzerland for a training camp. A deal looks imminent.
Reports in Spain say a deal has been agreed between the two clubs for €8m or €9m, including incentives. Representatives of the clubs met in the Vicente Calderón today to close the deal.
Although unconfirmed, Globedia does seem to know details of the transfer. Deportivo will receive €5m up front, while the rest will be paid in 2011 and 2012. The deal also means that the €2m debt the Galicians owe Atléti for the Zé Castro transfer is to be written off.
The fee could be increased by another million euros, if certain incentives are met. If Atleti manage to win the Europa League or Copa del Rey, Deportivo will receive €250,000 and double that if we manage to win la Liga. Those clauses only apply to next season though.
Filipe will sign a four year-contract for only €1.2 a year. Bargain!
Atlético interested in Villarreal pair
A couple of days ago El Mundo Deportivo made notice of Atleti’s interest in Villarreal-centerback Diego Godín and today MARCA’s frontpage read:“Godín will wear red and white next season.”
Although it seems unlikely Villarreal will want to sell their centerback to one of their direct rivals, radio station Cadena SER revealed the offer Atlético plan to make. Because of Villarreal’s financial worries the club hopes an €8m bid will be enough, although canteranos Keko and Paco Regalón could be included in the deal.
The big revelation of today’s news surely must be Atleti’s alleged interest in Villarreal winger Santi Cazorla. The Spanish international is an option the club is seriously considering if we manage to sell Simão.
