Atlético’s latest reinforcement, defender Miranda, was formally unveiled by Spanish celebrity Gonzalo Miró, close friend of Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, at the Vicente Calderón on Tuesday.
“I’m happy to have arrived in Madrid and at Atlético,” he said at his press conference.
“I plan on offering the best of myself and show that I want to stay here for a long time.”
Miranda, who flew to Spain on Sunday, went over his skill set, confidently assuring that he has “speed, technique and enough experience to handle any playing style.
“I’m prepared to mark any forward,” he said. “I trust in my chances and I want to meet expectations. I want to prove my worth with my play.”
Former Atlético man Cléber Santana, who crossed path with Miranda at Sao Paulo, had some words of advice for his countryman.
“I spoke to Cléber Santana and he told me that I was coming to a big club with marvelous fans that always support their players,” he said.
This will be Miranda’s second stint in Europe, and he has faith his time at Atleti will be a better experience than his single year at French Ligue 1 side Sochaux was back in the 2005/06 season.
“Now I have a lot more experience than before,” he said. “When I arrived to European football the first time I didn’t have the experience I have now.
“This time I am coming off of several years at Sao Paulo, having won titles there and having played for the national team.
“This has helped me grow as a footballer.”
Miranda’s not worried about facing off against la Liga’s world class strikers, such as Messi and Ronaldo.
“In this competition there are some great forwards, but I’m not afraid of taking them on,” he said.
“All they will do is make me a better defender.”
