New signing Fran Mérida was the big star in our first friendly of the season. We beat Alcalá 8-2 with two goals from the former-Arsenal midfielder. His first, just after half time, was a golazo.

Quique Sánchez Flores gave 26 (!) of his players the opportunity to impress, with only David de Gea not getting minutes. Atleti started with a midfield of canteranos, and two of them took care of the goalscoring in the first half. Rubén Pérez was the main protagonist, as he scored after only six minutes and set up Alberto Perea for the second goal ten minutes later. The same Perea assisted Juanito’s goal from a freekick, before Alcalá put one back, to make it 3-1 at half time.

At the start of the second half some of the big guns came on, like Domínguez, Ujfalusi, Reyes, Assunçao and Fran Merída. The latter opened his account for Atlético with a screamer from outside the box. After that Reyes confirmed to the public that he is fitter than ever and put on a show with some great dribbles and passes. One dribble led to a penalty, which was converted by Jurado.

Jurado assisted the next goal, which was scored by Eduardo Salvio. The home team then got another goal, before Fran and youngster Mínguez made the final score 2-8.

The only negatives of the night were the injury Rubén Pérez suffered just before half time, and the lack of videos.
