Last week we gave you a glimpse into Atlético’s pre-season plans, but on Saturday, the club offered us a concrete list of friendlies to be played throughout the month July.
The squad is currently residing at Los Ángeles de San Rafael where they’ll remain until the 17th of July, with three friendly fixtures on the agenda for the upcoming week.
On Sunday at 19:30 CET, Gregorio Manzano and his men face their first test of the summer when they take on Club Deportivo Arcángel.
Then on Thursday, we play Segunda División outfit Gimnàstic Segoviana, followed by a match against Segunda División B side RSD Alcalá on Saturday.
Although unconfirmed by the club, it seems Atlético will take part in a 3-team mini-tournament in Granada to celebrate the local team’s promotion to the Spanish top flight. If confirmed, the event would take place on the 21st of July.
We would play a half against Simão’s new team Besiktas followed by another half against Granada. Our two opponents would then close out the night against each other with a final 45 minutes of football.
Exactly a week later, the 28th of July, Atlético will play the first leg of our Europa League qualifying round, with the return leg scheduled on the 4th of August. On the 15th of July we should know who our opponent will be, after the draw has taken place in Nyon.
As we reported earlier, Atleti will partake in the Trofeo Colombino on the 12th of August against hosts Recreativo. Nine days later we kick off the new La Liga campaign with an away trip to Real Sociedad.
