While there’s still no official word from the Vicente Calderón, Real Zaragoza confirmed early Friday that Gabi is on his way back to Atlético.
The midfielder bid farewell to his club of four seasons at a press conference, thanking Zaragoza fans for all their support.
“I’ll never forget the good times, which have been many, as well as the affection from the fans,” he said.
“Real Zaragoza has helped me regain my enthusiasm for football.”
Los Maños had some kind words for Gabi in return on their official site, which read:
“Gabi has defended the Real Zaragoza shirt for four seasons, in which he has shown his honour, professionalism and commitment.”
The 28-year-old featured in 142 matches for Zaragoza and served as captain of the squad the last two seasons. It is believed we will pay Zaragoza €3 million for him.
Curiously, while Atleti haven’t formally announced the signing of the Rojiblanco youth system product, he is included in manager Gregorio Manzano’s list of players due back on Monday for the start of the preseason. This list was published on Atleti’s official website.
