New signing Silvio was presented to the public on Tuesday by Gregorio Manzano and Atleti’s sporting director, José Luis Caminero.
The Portuguese full-back signed a five year contract which keeps him at the club until 2016.
“It’s an honour being able to put on the shirt and to represent Atlético Madrid,” said the 23-year-old.
“They’ve explained to me what this club means, but I was already aware of how great an institution this is.”
His advisors may have been Paulo Futre and Simão, who were positive Atleti has done a great piece of business in signing up their fellow countryman.
Simão said: “He’s just what Atlético needs in that position. He gets forward very well and has improved a lot as a defender. And he’s a great professional.”
And Futre added: “He’s been the big revelation in the Portuguese league this season. He’s a versatile player with a good shot. He’s strong tactically and he’s a player with real character.”
The versatile defender is able to play on the left, but Manzano confirmed that he will be used on the right side of our defence.
Silvio moves for an undisclosed fee.
