David de Gea and Álvaro Domínguez won the European U21 Championships after beating Switzerland 2-0 in the final on Saturday night.

It’s the third time the Rojita have won the prestigious youth tournament after triumphs in 1986 and 1998.

Domínguez and De Gea started all five games for Spain. Ánder Herrera opened the scoring for Spain in the 40th minute – the first goal the Swiss defence has conceded all tournament.

In the 81st minute, Barcelona midfielder Thiago doubled the lead with a magnificent freekick.

Adrián López, who is expected to join Atlético soon, won the Golden Boot as top-scorer of the tournament with 5 goals, and was also named as the tournament’s ‘Golden Player’.

Rubén Pérez was also part of the U21 squad but didn’t feature at all in Denmark.

By reaching the final Spain has already qualified for the Olympics to be played in London next summer.
