This afternoon, six days prior to his 78th birthday, Tomislav Ivić passed away.
Ivić, born on 30 June 1933 in Split, Croatia, was head coach of Atlético during the 1990/91 season and helped the team finish 2nd in the league behind Barcelona.
Under Ivić, Atlético went on their legendary run without conceding a goal until Abel Resino finally let one get by after 1,275 minutes in a match against Sporting.
The Croatian had a rich career as a coach and managed in six different countries, winning a total of eight league titles. He also won five domestic cups and led FC Porto to European glory in 1988.
On Thursday Ivić, who suffered from diabetes, was admitted to the hospital with heart problems.
