A look back at some of the finest strikes of our recent campaign

It might have been a poor season in the end for Atlético, but along the way we had some glorious moments.

We’ve already looked back at the greatest players of 2010/11, and the defining matches of a season that held so much hope back for rojiblancos back in August.

Now it’s time to look at the top five greatest goals scored by Atleti this season. Do you agree with our list?

If not, let us know in the comments what your top 5 goals of 2010/11 were!

5) Sergio Agüero vs Las Palmas (October 27th, 2010)
The only goal from our Copa del Rey campaign to make the list, Kun Agüero scores with a well-placed finish after bursting past the Universidad defence.

4) Simao vs Sporting Gijon (August 30th, 2010)
Simao rarely scored a sweeter strike than this. Deep into stoppage time in the opening game of our season, the Portugese winger, sold in the winter transfer window to Besiktas, curls the ball beautifully into the back of the net after a sweet one-two pass with Mario Suarez.

3) Sergio Agüero vs Real Mallorca (May 21st, 2011)
It could be his final goal for Atlético, but Agüero gets one of his greatest in the closing minutes of our season against Real Mallorca. Kun beats 3 players on the edge of the area before lifting it over the goalkeeper and chipping it into the net from a very tight angle. This goal also completed his first hat-trick for Atleti.

2) Tiago vs Rosenborg (November 4th, 2010)
In what was probably the only highlight of an otherwise unremarkable and largely disappointing European campaign, Tiago beats 3 players before absolutely smashing the ball into the back of the Norwegian net.

1) José Antonio Reyes vs Villarreal (March 5th, 2011)
You maybe could have guessed, but early on in our game against Villarreal back in March, Reyes stepped up and whipped in an absolute screamer from well outside the area.

What was your favorite Atlético goal of the season?

  • Surely, Tiago vs Rosenborg. A Redondo play-style, in the last minutes and served to win the game.

  • Flo

Yes for me it was Tiago too. With Reyes one being second 😉

  • Well I would say Tiago, but Reyes one was amazing! So Reyes for me, Simao second and Tiago third.

  • Sweden

Tiago for sure, I sat at a pub and I was the only one watching the game, I shouted but no body got it, such a fine goal!

  • NiñoTorres

Kun vs. Real Sociedad should definitely have been in there I think, ran half the length before a really well taken finish. Could have been a separate competition for Kun though to be fair, his first against Depor in the Calderón, second against Mallorca on the last day, and first against Levante were all excellent as well.

Shame that there were no Forlán blockbusters to include in the list! 🙁

  • Reyes ftw!

  • Javi

The reyes and Tiago goles are equaly beautiful for me
But a especial one was reyes’ gol against Inter at the super cup-absolutely beautiful

  • starvs

I also said Tiago over Reyes initially but after watching both again I think Reyes at #1 is right, that ball started way left of the goal.

  • palc

If you watch Reyes goal in replay you appreciate it more. Also I think Kun’s second goal against Mallorca was a beauty too and pure skill.

  • Gert

I agree with starvs and palc here… amazing how it curls!
