Eduardo Salvio does not yet know where his future lies, although that may be cleared up in three days time. Benfica has until 31 May to exercise their option to sign him for €15m.
The Portuguese club is interested in holding on to the player that spent a year at the Estádio da Luz on loan, but are not willing to cough up the full fee.
Paying €15m for the 20-year old would make him the most expensive signing in the club’s history and rumours in Portugal suggest that Benfica want to include ‘keeper Roberto in a possible deal. The former Atlético goalie was signed for €8.5m last year but is considered a flop and has already been replaced by Braga’s Arthur.
Salvio himself told O Jogo that he wants his future resolved.
“Benfica has until the end of the month to decide, but as of right now nobody has spoken to me. Not Benfica nor Atleti. The truth is that I want to know what’s going to happen. I don’t like not knowing where I’ll play next season.”
“I’ve always said, Benfica is a club that’s in my heart. But now it’s all up to club president Luis Filipe Vieira”, he added.
The Argentine is currently in Madrid, recovering from his broken foot. “My main priority right now is getting fit in time for the new campaign.”
He also assured fans of the Águias that he won’t be joining their rivals Porto, another rumour that popped up in the Portuguese press.
“Porto? If I stay here I’ll only play for Benfica.”
Meanwhile in Spain, Marca report that Atlético are counting on Salvio, who has made a lot of progress this year. He’s expected to fill our three extracomunitario spots along with Elias and Miranda, which means that Diego Costa would leave the club this summer.
