Although they have nothing left to play for, Atlético Madrid B travelled to Extremadura with the intention of taking the three points against Cacereño. The encounter turned out to be a spectacular match despite the final 1-1 scoreline.
Both teams showed their intentions early on and there were chances on both sides. After just 12 minutes, Atlético took the lead when Fer scored a free kick from 30 yards out.
The midfielder has stepped up since Koke joined the first team, and has enjoyed a strong second half of the season. Fer takes care of all set piece situations and his goal yesterday was his fifth of the campaign, which means he is now the joint top scorer of the team along with José Collado.
But our B-team wasn’t able to hold on to their lead for very long, because just two minutes after the opening goal the home team struck back. Abel Segovia tied the score after Atleti’s defenders failed to clear the ball.
After half an hour, Luismi got a big opportunity to score Cacereño’s second, but he hit the crossbar above Iago.
The first half was played at a very high tempo, but after the break the match calmed down. Either side could have won, but both teams seemed happy to share the points.
Next week Atlético B play their final game of the season, a home clash against Conquense.
