Atlético forward Diego Costa sprained his ankle in training Wednesday morning and could miss out on Saturday’s home clash against Málaga.
According to Atleti’s official site, the 22-year-old rolled his right ankle and fell to the ground after attempting to control a pass with his chest. He was attended to on the field by the training staff and tried to continue practicing but was unable to and retired to the locker room early.
MARCA reports that the Brazilian is doubtful to make it back in time for Málaga’s visit. Diego Forlán would likely replace Costa in the starting line-up, although manager Quique Sanchez Flores may opt to go with winger José Antonio Reyes up top alongside Sergio Agüero.
It wasn’t all bad news at the Cerro del Espino however, as midfielder Koke, returning from a sprained left knee, took full part in training with his teammates and is expected to be available on Saturday.
Tiago did some light conditioning apart from the squad, and will probably miss out this weekend as he continues his recovery from the lumbar contusion and cervical sprain suffered last Sunday in Coruña.
