Atlético captain Antonio Lopez will miss at least two weeks of action after suffering a right knee sprain during Sunday’s clash in Pamplona, Atleti’s official site reports.

The veteran left-back underwent an MRI Tuesday afternoon that confirmed he sustained a grade I-II MCL sprain. Reports in the Spanish media suggest ‘El Capi’ could even be out for up to four weeks.

The left flank will be manned by fullback Filipe Luis, who has been battling Lopez for a starting job all season long.

Midfielder Fran Mérida, who suffered a minor left knee sprain in training days before the game against los Rojillos, returned to practice at full strength Tuesday morning and will be available to play when Real Sociedad visit the Calderón on Sunday.

Well I do believe Filipe need to be starting…

I hope Quique won’t prefer Alvaro as a left-back, Filipe is good enough and I’m sure he will prove that in next match!
