This season the Cerro del Espino has been a fortress, and that showed no signs of changing when Atlético Madrid B hosted the second team from Celta de Vigo on Sunday.

Earlier this season the Galicians beat us comfortably (3-1) but at home our boys are incredibly tough to beat. This was demonstrated with yesterday’s 5-1 win, which was even more impressive considering Atlético B played more than half an hour with ten men.

Although the final result would suggest otherwise, the visitors started off quite well. They played the ball around nicely and in the 14th minute they took the lead, when Mateo scored a fortunate goal. His shot was deflected and left Iago without a chance.

Atlético B responded well to the early set back and completely turned the game around with three goals in the space of ten minutes. First José Hermosa won a penalty, which was converted by Fer. He scored his third spot kick of the season and looks to be our penalty specialist after four out of our previous five penalties this season have been missed by other takers.

Atleti’s second goal, scored by Paco Regalón, was a nice piece of skill from our high scoring defender. The captain controlled a cross from Noguera on his chest before firing it into the back of the net.

Borja González dealt the final blow to Celta shortly after when he scored with a diagonal shot after a long pass from Javi Cantero.

Things were complicated for Atlético B when Noguera received his second yellow card and was sent off by Figueroa Vázquez. The midfielder received his final booking as the referee judged that he had dived inside the area.

Being a man down, the goal from José Hermosa couldn’t come have come at a better time. It killed all of Celta’s hopes when he made the most of a pass from Fer, scoring our fourth goal.

Just before the end substitute Mínguez made matters even worse for Celta, when he slotted the ball past Manu to complete the scoring, after nice work from Borja and Joseph.

Line-up: Iago; Regalón, Pulido, Atienza, Cantero; Fer, Sergio Marcos (“62 Joseph); Hermosa (“73 Mínguez), Batres, Noguera; and Borja (“86 César)
