Despite earlier saying that he would not leave Atlético and was looking forward to another big season with los Rojiblancos, Diego Forlan yesterday told Sky Sports News that a move to England was still a possibility.
The striker has been without question one of the players of the tournament at the World Cup in South Africa this summer, and he has attracted a great deal of interest from England, where we once failed to live up to expectations with Manchester United. Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs reported to be interested.
“I am very happy in Madrid and the way the city and the team are always with me.” Forlan said.
“(But) you never know. If it is a good offer we have to see if the team wants me to leave or not and then we have to sit and talk. They have to be a good offer and we have to see.”
It’s clear that Forlan wants any deal to be in the best interest of our club, but many Atlético fans would rather have their star striker next season than contemplate any sort of move for the 31 year old.
Harry Redknapp earlier told Sky Sports that “we’d love to have Diego here.”
