Our pursuit of new full-backs has been hardly secretive over the past few weeks, and it has now emerged that Atlético are interested in Lyon’s Anthony Réveillère.
The 30 year old’s contract is set to expire in 2011 and it is reported by French newspaper L’Equipe that Atlético are to consider bringing the defender back to La Liga, seven years after he left Valencia. A fee of 2 or 3 million euros is being quoted.
Réveillère was signed at Valencia by our own Jesus Garcia Pitarch and is seen as an alternative to Rod Fanni of Rennes, with which Atlético still cannot agree a fee.
Marca is reporting that Rennes are holding out for €8million, whereas Atléti don’t want to go above €6m.
It’s clear that the Fanni, 28, wants to come to Madrid, despite apparent interest from the English Premier League.
“The Spanish league is a great tournament and Atletico are a top club with great ambition. It is a very important step for me and my career.” he told Marca. “I hope they can come to an agreement before I return to Rennes on 17 July.”
