Atlético Madrid B have lost just two matches at home this season and they took their next victim on Sunday as Rayo Vallecano B were beaten 1-0 at the Cerro del Espino. The only goal of the match was scored by Atlético skipper Paco Regalón.
The stakes were high, because ahead of the match Atlético had fallen back into the relegation zone and during the opening minutes both teams appeared to be nervous and cautious. It was the Rojiblancos who created the first opportunity but Alberto Perea had his shot saved in the 18th minute.
Some minutes later Atlético broke out dangerously on a counter-attack, but Roberto Batres failed to connect with striker Borja. Third time’s the charm for Atleti however, because when Alberto Perea swung in a corner in the 25th minute it was headed home by Paco Regalón.
In the first half the midfield trio of Perea, Sergio Marcos and Noguera worked well but after the break Rayo took control of the game. The visitors dominated the match and deserved a point, but were kept out by Iago who saved his team with two excellent saves.
Next week Atlético B play another Madrelenian derby, one that will mean even more to the fans, when they visit Real Madrid Castilla, who currently occupy 3rd place. The city rivals had won their last 8 matches before drawing with Conquense this weekend.
