Atlético winger Jose Antonio Reyes went on the popular Cadena SER radio show ‘El Larguero’ on Tuesday evening to deny claims about a locker room campaign against Diego Forlan.
“It’s nonsense that we don’t pass the ball to Forlán,” said Reyes. “One who watches the games has to realise that there isn’t a single problem with Forlán.”
The former Sevilla man had some pointed words for El Pais, the Spanish paper that released the report. “Whoever publishes this information does it because they are very bored,” he said.
The paper quoted an unnamed Atlético coach who assured that certain players had plotted against the Uruguayan striker, known within the dressing room as ‘la rubia’.
“Frankly, it’s a lie,” said Reyes. “I don’t have any problems with ‘la rubia.’ We’re friends and we get along well. What was published is nonsense.”
The 27-year-old admitted it is “normal and logical” that television cameras catch the two bickering back and forth at each other during games, but that “what happens on the field, stays on the field.”
It will be interesting to see if Forlán suddenly sees an increase in passes to him in the upcoming games, starting with Wednesday’s clash against Getafe.
