Atlético have announced that Jorge Resurrección, or Koke as we know him, has signed a new contract with Atlético Madrid.
The young midfielder’s contract was set to expire this summer but has agreed a new deal to keep him at the club until 2016.
Although he is still frequently involved with the B-team, Koke was promoted to the first team at the start of this campaign. Lately he has been part of all of Quique’s match selections, featuring in three la Liga matches so far this season.
Koke, who turned 19 last month, said he was proud to continue as a rojiblanco.
“For me it’s an honour to wear the colours of Atlético Madrid and I’ve dreamed of this since I was a little boy. I’ve fulfilled a dream and now all I want is to pay back the club for all the confidence they have given me.
“I’m aware of the privilege I have, being able to play with players like Agüero, Forlán and Reyes. From them I can learn a lot as a player and as a person.”, he added.
The Spain U19 international has been on the scouting lists of clubs like Arsenal and Barcelona for a long time, but said he’s happy to continue in Madrid.
“It’s clear that the coach believes in me and that’s very important. Now it’s up to me to return his trust and help the first team.”
