Today is the winter transfer window deadline day, and it seems both of our star strikers are being linked with moves to North London. Reports in the British and Spanish press say that Tottenham Hotspur are sniffing around Sergio Agüero and Diego Forlán.
Late last night Sky Sports News in the UK reported that Tottenham Hotspur had made a €45 million (£38.5m) bid for our Argentine wonderkid Sergio Agüero. The offer was then rejected by Atlético, despite the fact that it matches Kun’s ‘release clause’. Clarification on how release clauses work can be found here.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp told Sky Sports News this morning that he was unaware of a move for Agüero.
“No, I don’t know anything at all about that one [Agüero]. It would surprise us all if that happened. But, no, I don’t think there is anything in that one at all,” Redknapp said.
This morning club president Enrique Cerezo presented Sergio Agüero’s new contract extension to the media, the same contract that was signed a few weeks ago. Convenient, eh?
Kun Agüero has today confirmed that he wants to remain at Atlético de Madrid.
Meanwhile, in the last hour, MARCA have reported that Forlan is the subject of a bid from Tottenham too. The North London club look to be trying to lure Diego to England with the promise of Champions League football. The Spanish paper says that chairman Daniel Levy has been dispatched to talk with Atlético directly.
