Forlan: “I am very happy in Madrid”

Argentine forward set to snub Spurs to remain in Spain

Diego Forlan has revealed that he wants to stay at Atlético next season, despite reports linking him with a move back to England.

Forlan, 31, is being lauded as one of the best players at the World Cup this summer, scoring four goals for Uruguay on the way to their semi-final clash with the Netherlands tomorrow night.

Reports across England and Spain were linking the striker with a return to England, where he had a difficult two season spell with Manchester United.

It took the striker nearly eight months to score his first goal for the Manchester outfit, and he only went on to score 10 goals in 63 league appearances.

A move to Villarreal followed where he flourished, followed by a €21m move to Atlético to replace Fernando Torres.

“I am very happy in Madrid and I have three years left on my contract with Atletico. I will not go.” reports MirrorFootball.

“Now I want to have another season as good or better than the one just completed.”

This is great news for us Atlético fans who feared losing our top talent this summer. Forlan had been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, and reports now suggest Spurs manager Harry Redknapp will turn his attention to signing Luis Suarez instead.
