It’s not just our defenders who have no idea who they will be lining up with come the next Atlético match.
In midfield it’s like Quique is playing a game of musical chairs, with just two spots available for five players. Seven even, if you count Fran Mérida and new addition Elias.
The coach has shown little consistency in selecting his midfield pair. We wonder if he even knows his preferred pairing.
In our league match against Deportivo on Saturday he started with Raul Garcia and Tiago for the first time, which made them the seventh combination Quique has tried this season.
The most used couple is Raúl García and Assunção, but the Spaniard lost his place to Tiago, while Mario Suárez seemed to replace Assunção after the Derbi Madrileño.
A poor run of results made Sánchez Flores change back to Assunção, who statistically has the best performances for Atlético. With Assunção and Tiago in midfield Atlético hasn’t lost so far this season.
On the weekend the Brazilian sat out a suspension, but instead of going back to Mario, Quique decided to partner Raúl García with Tiago. The former Osasuna midfielder put in an excellent performance and came up with an assist for our second goal in the 2-0 win.
Keeping in mind that Camacho, Koke and Fran Mérida are also available, and with Elias joining us soon, there seem to be plenty of options for Quique left to experiment with. However, we’d rather he pick a combination and stick with it.
