Only days after the transfer of Elias was announced, Atlético are reportedly working on another deal.

Newspaper AS informs us Atlético are negotiating with Sao Paulo for the transfer of centre-back Miranda.

We obtained a first option on the strong defender when we sold Cléber Santana to the Tricolor Paulista last January.

Miranda has only six months left on his contract and has rejected a new offer by his club, as he is looking for a move to Europe.

Atlético’s directors don’t want to run the risk of the player signing for another club for free in the summer, and have opened talks with Sao Paulo to sign Miranda in the coming transfer window.

The Brazilians have reduced their requested transfer fee to €2m, but Atlético hope to sign their new reinforcement for even less.

Miranda’s arrival also depends on Diego Godín. The Brazilian can only be registered for la Liga action after the Uruguayan frees up a non-EU spot by securing his Spanish passport. The latest reports suggest that Godín will swear his oath to the Spanish constitution by no later than January.

Personally, we’re stunned that García Pítarch keeps signing centre-backs and centre midfielders, while we still lack depth on the wings and right-back positions.

this guy in, Perea out and I’ll be the happiest person in the world…

  • Seriously, its getting more and more chaotic. Express signing of Elias, now Miranda out of nowhere, especially since if he comes in place of Godin in EU slot it would mean the end of Salvio in Atletico… wtf!? Stop that crazyness asap Pitarch!

Btw when does Costa gain spanish passport? In FM 2011 (and it actually is a good source for info like this) he is already waiting for paperwork, but somehow I cannot believe that.

Noticed he has been included in the Brazilian League team of the year for the last 4 years running, I guess he can’t be too bad. I’m not sure how we’re gonna get passports for all these players, but if we can fit Miranda in for €2m I don’t see why not, he seems to be highly rated enough.

The only thing I can see that makes sense is that they get him cheap because of the Cleber deal and then they trade him for a winger that we truly need.

  • starvs

yeah Javi is right, best thing here would be to get him cheap and flip him into another player of need.

  • AmorColchonero

Well, at least it’s not another CM which we have enough already. I read somewhere that we have at least 20% of his rights due to the Cleber deal but seems like Miranda is highly rated. He can turn into David Luiz, Luisao or he can become Breno only time will tell.

I think he can be a quality signing, he looks big, strong and more importantly an aerial threat which we lack. Although we still need IMO 2 wingers and another striker or maybe a versatile striker/ winger like farfan
