Our Colombian centre-back to play his eight season in the Vicente Calderón

Atletico Madrid defender Luis Amaranto Perea has signed a new contract in the Vicente Calderón

Luis Amaranto Perea

Luis Amaranto Perea has extended his contract with Atlético and will continue playing for los Rojiblancos until June 2012.

The Colombian’s contract was set to end at the end of this season, but as we reported last month, the club intended to continue with their versatile centre-back.

Perea will be handed his new deal by club president Enrique Cerezo during an official presentation on Monday.

He joined Atleti in 2004 after an impressive friendly match he played with his former club Boca Juniors in the Vicente Calderón.

Since then Perea has played over 180 league games for Atlético and is our second longest serving player after captain Antonio López. Perea is yet to score a goal in his professional career.

It always hurts to think back about the goal he scored against Real Madrid that was inexplicably invalidated.

Perea during today’s press conference:“I can only see myself in red and white.”

“It’s an honour to be the foreigner with the 2nd most appearances for the club [after the Argentine Griffa]. But I still intend to do better, and will continue to work hard to improve.”

We love you Luis Amaranto. You seem to get faster every season. Here’s a video of the presentation.
