The star attacker's release clause will reportedly drop from €60m to €45m

MARCA reports that Atlético will officially announce Sergio Agüero’s new five-year contract next week.

The Argentine striker has agreed to remain with the club through 2015, though his release clause will be dropped by 25 per cent from €60m to €45m.

An unnamed Atleti official assured the Spanish paper that the reduction in the release clause should not be interpreted as a sign that our star player will be transferred.

“What would be abnormal would be to work with figures that are currently beyond the market,” said the unspecified club source.

“We bet on Agüero, and we want him to stay here for many years.

“If he wants to leave one day, it would be normal for us to come to an agreement.”

The 22-year old will earn roughly €6m per year, up from his current rate of €4.5m from his previous contract, which expires in 2012.

Kun’s new salary will tie him with Diego Forlán as Atlético’s highest paid player.

How do you feel about the new release clause? Are you worried, or is it as Quique would say, super normal?

  • Derek Maaijen

Haha, the super normal thing is sticking! I’m not worried about Kun’s buyout clause, there’s nothing that hints at a possible departure
