Sources in the Spanish media report that the knock Atlético winger José Antonio Reyes suffered in last night’s tie against Almería will not prevent him from making it to the Bernabéu for this weekend’s derby.
Reyes, who was replaced at the half by Fran Mérida, took a blow to the left leg from Almería midfielder Juanma Ortiz, which resulted in a muscular contusion and a strained calf.
Tests performed on the winger this morning revealed that the injury is a minor one, and though he is set to miss our midweek clash at Trondheim against Rosenborg, he should be fit in time to face Real Madrid on Sunday.
The importance of Reyes’ availability against Los Blancos cannot be emphasized enough. Atleti’s creativity in offense took a notable turn downward in the the 27-year old’s absence from the second half of last night’s draw.
Coupled with the suspension of Luis Amaranto Perea (5 yellow cards) and Diego Godín’s unavailability as he continues his recovery from his appendectomy, Los Colchoneros can ill afford yet another loss.
