Rojiblancos woke up to some very devastating news this morning, that of Diego Godín’s emergency appendectomy that will keep the Uruguayan out of the lineup for at least three to four weeks.
AS reports that the defender was admitted to the hospital at 4:30 AM with abdominal pain, fever and leukocytosis .
Doctors performed an ultrasound around the 24-year old’s abdominal region, the results of which confirmed that he had acute appendicitis.
There’s nothing cute about this injury. Recovery time post-surgery is estimated to be anywhere from three to four weeks, though of course it can vary from person to person.
Atleti’s roster this season has resembled a whack-a-mole game in that the moment an injured player is back up on his feet and ready to go, another man goes down.
Fans were delighted to learn that Álvaro Domínguez had overcome his ankle sprain and would be ready in time for the derby, a clash that Godín will now tragically be forced to miss out on.
