Haunted by a month-and-a-half long spell without a goal to his name, Diego Forlán will be eager to welcome Almería to Madrid this Sunday for a chance to finally banish his demons.
Our No. 7 missed out on easy mid-week prey Universidad Las Palmas, a side his team-mates handled with ease in a 5-0 drubbing to kick-off Atleti’s Copa del Rey campaign.
Forlán was forced to stay at home and watch the other Diegos, Godín and Costa, pad their stats as they each struck once in the victory over the third division outfit.
While Cacha recently told SportYou that he doesn’t despair over these droughts, he did express disappointment with himself, particularly considering he is in the running for the FIFA Golden Ball award.
MARCA reported earlier today that Forlán continued his individual training programme practising shots on goal. The Spanish paper also reminded us that our star striker has the same amount of goals now that he had at the same point in the preceding three seasons, including his sensational 2008-09 Pichichi and Golden Shoe winning campaign, helping to calm the fears of the most concerned.
The 31-year old has scored a goal in each of Almería’s last three Liga visits to the Calderón, and will be keen on taking the streak up to four on Halloween night.
So what do you think: Will it be trick or treat this Sunday for Forlán?
