The warm-up for el Derbi Madrileño ends goalless

Atlético Madrid B and Real Madrid Castilla don't score in the Mini Derbi Madrileño

The Derbi Madrileño between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid is still two weeks away, but this weekend our B-team got the opportunity to deal the first blow to our rivals.

Atlético B played a strong match against Real Madrid Castilla and deserved a win, although in the end nobody complained about the final score; 0-0.

In the 61st minute Joselu, who was Celta de Vigo’s focal point in attack in the Segunda División last season, was given the perfect opportunity to give Castilla the win.

César Ortiz fouled Fran Rico and the referee awarded a penalty. But Joselu, a Spanish youth international, sent the ball over the crossbar.

Speaking of Spanish internationals, four of Real’s players are with Spain U19 as well as Koke for Atlético B, which crippled both sides.

In the first half Javi Hernández had come close to scoring for the visitors, while Mínguez and César Ortiz had Atlético’s best opportunities.

Mínguez’ shot shaved the post while César found goalkeeper Jesús on his way.

After the missed penalty kick Atlético took control of the match, but Jesús was able to keep his clean sheet intact.

First Mínguez and then Saúl were unable to convert their chances.

Alberto Perea, one of the best players at the Cerro del Espino, almost decided the match in the 81st minute. He dribbled inside from the right wing but couldn’t beat Jesús.

The last opportunity of the match was for Noguera, who did very well after coming on for Vítor. But his shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Real Madrid ended the match with ten men after Nacho received his second yellow card two minutes before full time.

And so this match ended as it began. The draw doesn’t really help either side; Atlético B still sit in the bottom of the table with just seven points from ten matches.

Line-up: Iago; César Ortiz, Regalón, Pulido, Cantero; Fer, Sergio Marcos; Perea, Saúl, Mínguez; and Vítor.
Subs: Noguera (“64), Abel (“83) and Atienza (“91)
