With Quique Sánchez Flores in the stands, Atlético B finally took its first victory of the season.
The win couldn’t have come at a better time as next week our boys play the derby against Real Madrid Castilla.
Unfortunately, César Ortiz and Jorge Pulido will miss that match as they were both sent off against Badajoz.
Things ended even worse for the visitors, who finished the match with just eight players in their 1-0 defeat.
In the first half Badajoz were the better team, but the biggest opportunity was for Saúl after a cross by Alberto Perea.
In the second half Atlético B tried to take control over the match by bringing in Sergio Marcos, but he and Koke weren’t able to find the back of the net.
The match was then derailed by red cards. Jorge Pulido was the first to go in the 71st minute and was followed by César Ortiz ten minutes later. Both picked up double yellows.
In between those expulsions, left-back Javi Cantero had put Atlético B ahead after scoring the winning goal with his knee in the 78th minute, just after Perea had been denied by the goalkeeper.
Badajoz weren’t able to profit from being two men up, because three of their players were sent off in the 82nd, 86th and 92nd minute, the first for a violent tackle.
In their eighth league match Atlético B finally got their first win. Hopefully, the loss of César and Pulido won’t cost us next week.
