Spanish daily MARCA has handed Quique Sánchez Flores a special award for winning both the Europa League and the European Super Cup.
The sports paper hosted the Premios MARCA (MARCA Awards) and gave away prizes to la Liga’s biggest stars of 2009-10.
Of course it was Barcelona that picked up most trophies. Lionel Messi was last season’s topscorer and best player; David Villa the Spanish topscorer and Víctor Valdés the best goalkeeper in the league.
Guardiola was named the best coach, but MARCA had prepared a special award for Quique for his spectacular performances outside of Spain.
Our left-back Filipe and Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz were handed the Fair Play Award, named after the late Antonio Puerta and Dani Jarque.
Iraizoz broke Filipe’s leg in a league match between Deportivo and Athletic last season, but thankfully the Brazilian has fully recovered.
There were also awards for World Cup winner Íker Casillas and Segunda División players Jorge Molina and Vicente Guaita.
