Video: 5 takeaways from Atleti’s UCL win v Leverkusen

Carlo Valladares gives the last word on the rojiblancos quarter-final triumph

Atlético Madrid are now in to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals after winning 4-2 on aggregate over Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16.

The second-leg finished in a 0-0 draw and now Diego Simeone’s men have put themselves in prime position to challenge further on the European front with their domestic campaign aspirations all but lost.

Watch the video below as Carlo Valladares and give you their five takeaways from Wednesday’s match:

I agree very much on the analysis of Thomas. Like many people in here I think he has the upper hand on Saul right now. At it is very nice too see his drive with the ball. When he gets the ball in midfield he can dribble a player and really drive the ball forward in speed. None of our other CMs can do that. So I hope he gets some more minutes this season.

Btw how nice was the UCL draw! I don’t think it could have worked out better for us. Great that the 4 “giants” were paired already.

He needs to work on his passing though.

Agreed, best draw but we shouldn’t let our guard down against a similarly built counter-attacking team.
Our attacking edge could prove the difference.

By the way another good video Carlo.

I think We need to sign Fabinhio from Monaco, he can be long term replacement for Gabi. We were linked with him last summer but for some reason deal couldn’t materialise , also he never misses a penalty. What a miss it was on our part.

  • Pep Guardiola

    You already have good players.

That’s the line up I would go with if I managed this team.

Definitely a tough matchup. They beat Sevilla, so they are dangerous. We don’t want this ending out in a penalty shootout either, so we have to score some goals. Especially dangerous that the last game is at their home, a very intense place. But I think our cynicism in these knockouts will bring us through to the next round. I am looking forward to it.

And how about Monaco for a attacking team. They are so fun to watch. I hope we get to play them to see their style of play against ours. It would be a fun final 🙂

Good analysis, especially about Thomas, Jan Oblak, and Vrsaljko. Thomas and Vrsaljko are really quite good! Thomas has excellent ball handling skills and Vrsaljko does a better job getting forward and his crosses are better than Juanfran’s. There was just one minor thing. Jan Oblak’s first name is not pronounced “Jan.” In Slavic languages, like Slovenian,
the J is pronounced like a Y and the A is like the A in “father.” So his first name would be pronounced “Yon.”

I am looking forward to seeing more videos from you.

Yes it should. We can learn much from how they mobilize their attacking play.

    VAMOS Atleti !!!
